Homework questions due 4/1

As a student beginning a ten-week period of color theory study and a new pre-retail merchandising major I would like to learn the general concepts about color, value, and everything that goes along with it. Through projects and lectures I would like to gain a better understanding about everything that has to do with color, and become more creative through what we do in class. I want to be able to speak about different aspects of color and understand more about it. I want to be able to identify different fundamentals having to do with color and design. I hope through creating different projects in class, in the future it will benefit my ability to think outside of the box and think and look at creations more critically.

The image on the top of the syllabus, to me, is a combination of Andy Warhol’s favorite printing technique, silk screening, and the use of the color wheel put together. Andy Warhol made many of his creations printed through silk screening mainly of famous people’s ┬ápersonalities. I think this image presents how Andy Warhol thought about Goethe’s personality through color around his color wheel that he created, along with every part of the color wheel corresponding with the picture of Goethe in each corner. After reading about Goethe I feel like in the image on our syllabus, maybe each corner of Goethe represents the different personalities of Goethe’s life. The two darker pictures might represent the rough part of Goethe’s life and hectic youth. The two lighter pictures might represent his success in life, holding government positions and writing and creating.
